Museum of the Moon is a touring artwork by UK artist Luke Jerram

Museum of the Moon is a large-scale Moon replica. It allows us to observe and contemplate cultural similarities and differences around the world as well as consider the latest moon science. Depending on where the artwork is presented, its meaning and interpretation will shift. Through local research at each location of the artwork, new stories and meanings will be collected and compared from one presentation to the next

At an approximate scale of 1:500,000, each centimeter of the internally-lit spherical sculpture represents 5KM of the moon’s surface! I love the way this piece looks in all these different settings and environments. It’s kind of surreal to see a big structure with such great detail inside small, intimate spaces as well as massive cathedral spaces. I find it particularly amazing how in each location this piece is presented, its meaning and context are changed as well as the way the users in that space interact with it. Really makes you take into consideration how everyone on the planet experiences the moon in a different light.
