Shift Souls
Iris van Herpen presented her latest Haute Couture collection titled, 'Shift Souls’. Inspired by early examples of celestial cartography and its representations of mythological and astrological chimera, Van Herpen was particularly taken with "Harmonia Macrocosmica," a star atlas by the German-Dutch cartographer, Andreas Cellarius, published in 1600.
Truly breathtaking pieces - how the dresses interact with body, especially the ones that feel as if they are vibrating from the movement of the model. The colors feel as if they have been pulled from individual planet surfaces. The topographical line work and layering adds depth to the forms and makes the dresses radiate off the body. Finally, the environment changes at 5:50, projecting dark clouds and a low beam of light that gave the sense of emerging through Earth’s atmosphere.
